On 13th November Vance Joy brings his Nation of Two tour to Ally Pally – his one and only date in the UK. Ahead of what promises to be an unmissable show, the Australian singer-songwriter put together an exclusive playlist of some of the songs that have inspired him. You can read our interview here.

Take a listen below and then purchase your tickets here.

Savage Garden – I Want You

“I purchased Savage Garden’s first album when I was about seven or eight. I became obsessed with that album and would look through the CD booklet until I knew all the lyrics. I remember falling in love with ‘I Want You’, it was such a super poppy song with such a cool chorus.”

Caribou – Can’t Do Without You

“I just really like the layers in this song and the build. I listened to this album a lot when it came out.”

Johnny Flynn – The Wrote and the Writ

“I saw Jonny Flynn at a really small venue in Melbourne. He is a folk artist from England, and one day when I happened to be listening to him all day, I randomly looked at the website for that small venue and found out he was playing that same night. It was a strange sequence of events. I just love that song and I still listen to it a lot.”

Paul Kelly – If I Could Start Today Again

“This song is beautiful, so do yourself a favour and have a listen. Paul Kelly is such a legendary singer-songwriter from Australia, this song in particular is about a guy who wishes he could take back the things that he said. I’ts just a beautiful, beautiful song.”

The Cranberries – Linger

“There are two lines in this song that I just love, ‘were you lying all the time’ and ‘I’m a fool for you’, just sounds so beautiful.”

Metallica – Nothing Else Matters

“This song is what really got me into guitar. I really wanted to play the cool fingerpicking introduction.”

Vance Joy performans at Alexandra Palace on 13th November. Final tickets are available here.
